Apply Today! GEP 2022-23 AmeriCorps VISTA Position

The Grinnell Education Partnership is now accepting applications on a rolling basis until July 1, 2022, for a full-time 12-month AmeriCorps VISTA Program Development Coordinator to begin August 1.


The Program Development Coordinator will:

  1. Research and coordinate community projects;

  2. Organize volunteers, and;

  3. Build capacity around family engagement, equity and emerging GEP initiatives.

Serving with the Grinnell Education Partnership, the AmeriCorps VISTA Program Development Coordinator will build capacity to broaden the reach of community-based interventions, increase the effectiveness of community agencies to align their respective resources to better support community-education priorities, and improve equity for sustained change in Grinnell, Iowa.

This full-time VISTA position's flexible hours may include 8AM-5PM Monday-Friday. This AmeriCorps position is affiliated with Volunteer Iowa and is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 1, 2022 and continue through to July 31, 2023.


Day-to-day activities may include:

  • Convening/attending regular meetings with stakeholders to identify community needs, activities, and initiatives;

  • Research and report on family engagement and equity for future program development;

  • Pilot and/or enhance 3 or more projects to better align community resources to support PK-12 kids and families in the greater Grinnell area;

About the Grinnell Education Partnership

The Grinnell Education Partnership is a community-wide initiative that brings together nonprofits, area employers, the Grinnell-Newburg School District and community volunteers. Supported by a team of AmeriCorps members working with local organizations across the community, the partnership is helping ensure that children in Grinnell get a strong start and a strong finish to their school experience. The national Campaign for Grade-Level Reading focuses on promoting early school success as an important building block of more hopeful futures for children in economically challenged families and communities.

Eligibility

Full-Time VISTA Member eligibility requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age at the commencement of service;

  • Have a high school diploma or its equivalent, or be in the process of obtaining one;

  • Be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States; and

  • Pass all required National Service Criminal History Checks conducted by the AmeriCorps VISTA Program.

Preference will be given to those who:

  • Have interest or experience in non-profit management or community organization;

  • Possess strong writing, editing, speaking, presentation, and general communication skills;

  • Are organized, self-motivated, reliable, and dependable;

  • Demonstrate strong teamwork and leadership skills; and

  • Have some college-level course work experience.

Benefits

AmeriCorps team members are eligible for the following service benefits:

  • Living allowance. Members will receive a gross annual subsistence allowance of $15,002 for their term of service.

  • End-of-Service Award. Upon successful completion of service, service members are eligible for an education award or a service stipend. The education award can be used to repay qualified student loans and to pay current educational expenses at eligible institutions. It is good for up to seven years. If the member is 55+, the award may be transferred to a child, grandchild, or foster child. For VISTA, the education award benefit is approximately $6,495.   • Loan Forbearance. Qualified student loans are eligible for forbearance during AmeriCorps terms and many members qualify for income-based deferment of their student loans. (For more information on deferment/forbearance, visit Student Aid Loan Deferment.)
